Chesham Business Award Launched

Chesham’s Mayor, Councillor Merrin Molesworth, has launched the 2008 Business Award, sponsored by the Chesham Chamber of Trade and Commerce. If your business gives something back to the community, why not nominate it?
The award is open to businesses/retail outlets in the town that make a positive contribution to Chesham, through community projects, environmental activities, educational projects or voluntary work.
The winner receives a certificate and specially engraved trophy, which are presented by the Mayor at the Annual Town Meeting held at Chesham Town Hall on the 15th May 2008.
You can nominate your own business, or put forward a business in the town that you think deserves recognition for its good deeds. Both large and small businesses have won in the past; in 2007 the winner was the Chesham branch of Waitrose and in 2006 the award was won by Chapter One booksellers. The deadline for nominations is Monday 31st March and all you need to do is fill in a short application form. You can get a form from the Town Hall by picking one up in person, by phoning 01494 774842, or emailing admin@chesham.gov.uk.
There are two other categories of Mayoral Award: the People’s Award is open to all ages, to recognise those who have helped Chesham and its people, supported local charitable work or demonstrated outstanding citizenship. And The Rafe Chiles Young Person’s Award is for people aged up to 25 who have made a positive difference to the lives of young people in Chesham. So if you know someone who fits the bill, put them forward for the awards! The winners of both awards each receive £150 towards the charity/project of their choice, thanks to sponsorship from the Mayor and the Buckinghamshire Examiner.

Councillor Molesworth said, “It is humbling to come across so many people who do so much for their neighbours and the environment of Chesham. Former mayor, Cllr Bhatti instigated an award scheme in 2004 to recognize such unsung citizens and I urge everyone to continue this tradition by nominating someone for one of the three categories - adults, businesses and especially, young people.”
If you’d like to know more, please contact the Town Hall (10 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday).
